Used samsung sidekick 4g2/9/2024 Wacky, right? Likewise, the 3.5mm headphone jack is on the other end of the same edge, right next to the volume rocker - not exactly "normal" placement. For example, the power button is on the front right edge if you're holding the phone landscape, which equates to the lower left if you're holding it portrait. Looking at the controls and ports, some of them are going to be pretty foreign if you're not coming from an older Sidekick. One small bit of good news is that the casing is entirely matte, which should do a far better job skirting damage (scuffs, minor scratches, and the like) from normal use than Samsung's famously glossy Galaxy S devices do. For instance, there's not a lick of soft touch anywhere to be found on the top or bottom - it's all hard plastic. There's definitely a market for this class of device.Īnd let me be clear: this isn't a cheesy, rickety, or poorly-made device, nor does it look particularly cheap - it just lacks that certain je ne sais quoi that higher-end phones usually exude. In other words, I don't think it's a bad thing that this isn't as luxurious of a device as the LX was for its day - if anything, the 4G is truer to the Sidekick brand than the LX ever was. And my hypothesis here is underscored by the pricing - back in the day, the LX went for $199.99 on contract after rebate, whereas the 4G has launched at $99.99. With the 4G, though, the story has changed the myTouch and G brands are in full effect for the mainstream consumer and high-end markets, which gives the Sidekick brand an opportunity to return to its teen-centric, hypersocial roots. T-Mobile wanted a high-end device that carried over Sidekick familiarity. I don't think it's intended to be quite as high-end, and in the the scheme of things, that makes sense: when the LX came out, it was trying to appeal to longtime Sidekick users who'd started to grow up, get grown-up jobs (hence the Exchange support), and have grown-up money to throw around. Thank you.im going to cc this to tmobile right now.I wish I had a Sidekick LX 2009 (which I reviewed) handy for direct comparison, but from what I remember, the Sidekick 4G is clearly a half-step down the first time you look at it - it's chunkier and more plasticky than its predecessor. Cause the sidekick has the memory of a flip phone… ooh and 1 more thing. (lol) and am I being greedy for saying this. ![]() Well basically make a larger screen BLACK G2 run on gingerbread. Like operating in and out of apps, and programs without closing or ending, and the trackball. Keep the same features the sidekick already has. And im assuming somebody owns the design because while there are a host of phones with keyboards… none I mean non compare to the raised keys of a sidekick. About 16-19 people and they ALL had blackberrys. I realized how retarded I looked when I went to dinner with some friends. Service(both actual data/phone coverage and customer support) is awful and suggestions that the 3G coverage are greatly exaggerated? My Sidekick does make for a lovely decorative paperweight though. Why would I purchase another Sidekick when support for it is nonexistent, Till this day my Sidekick LX can’t: bring up google without taking a minute or two- or even longer sometimes, refresh a page without taking a minute to do so, scale many, many, many websites for proper viewing or navigation, hold a call to save my life, hold a charge very long if i do choose to use the shoddy data service and even screen lock properly so I don’t dial people while I am walking.Įvery demonstration of Tmobile’s 3G failure has been met by profuse apologies and suggestions to upgrade to the new 4G sidekick that is coming out. It’s complete BS Tmobile can’t even get 3G right. I am now almost done with my two year contract and cannot believe these commercials I see about Tmobile being the “fastest growing 4G network”. That network upgrade was supposed to happen three months after the purchase of my Sidekick LX. When I choose the Sidekick LX over all the blackberries and basic phones (Androids weren’t on the market yet), the Tmobile Rep said that 3G service would be “blazing fast” and make social networking and browsing the web ridiculously easy. ![]() 1.5 years ago I had my Samsung stolen from me and I had to swap/upgrade my phone.
